13 I Have Remembered My Covenant
I Have Remembered My Covenant
Exodus
1:8 Even though there was a new Pharaoh (really a new dynasty) who made the
lives of the people difficult, they Lord was still aware of them, knew their
sufferings, had compassion on them, remembered the covenants made with them and
their fathers, and he sent in motion His plan for their escape and salvation.
Keep trusting in Him. He sees you. He knows you. And He will
bless you.
Exodus
6:6–7 6 Wherefore say unto the children of Israel, I am the Lord,
and I will bring you out from under the burdens of the
Egyptians, and I will rid you out of their bondage, and I will redeem
you with a stretched out arm, and with great judgments:
7 And I will take you to me for a people,
and I will be to you a God: and ye shall know that I am the Lord your
God, which bringeth you out from under the burdens of the Egyptians.
God can work through me to fulfill His purposes.
Exodus
1–2
Pay attention to the women past and present. The Lord relies
on righteous women to fulfill his purposes. The Egyptian midwives would not
kill the Israelite men children. When can you step out of your comfort zone to
preserve life?
Jesus Christ is my Deliverer.
Exodus
1–3
What situations today hold you captive. What can you learn
from the Lord’s love for and deliverance of the Israelites? When has the Lord
come down to deliver you?
Exodus
2:23–25 23 ¶ And it came to pass in process of time, that
the king of Egypt died: and the children of Israel sighed by reason of the
bondage, and they cried, and their cry came up unto God by
reason of the bondage.
24 And God heard their groaning, and God remembered
his covenant with Abraham, with Isaac, and with Jacob.
25 And God looked upon the children of Israel, and God
had respect unto them.
3:7–8
7 ¶ And the Lord said, I have surely seen
the affliction of my people which are in Egypt,
and have heard their cry by reason of their taskmasters; for I know
their sorrows;
8 And I am
come down to deliver them out of the hand of the Egyptians,
and to bring them up out of that land unto a good land and a large, unto a
land flowing with milk and honey; unto the place of
the Canaanites, and the Hittites, and the Amorites, and the Perizzites,
and the Hivites, and the Jebusites.
We all have a promised land ahead of us. The Millennium will
be a promised land, in the land of Zion. Salvation and Exaltation will also
give us a promise land forever.
We need to remember that the Lord is our Deliverer. Many of
His prophets were messianic figures, in that the led their people to salvation.
Compare the following verses:
Deuteronomy
18:18–19 18 I will raise them up a Prophet from among
their brethren, like unto thee, and will put my words in his mouth;
and he shall speak unto them all that I shall command him.
19 And it shall come to pass, that whosoever
will not hearken unto my words which he shall speak in my name, I will
require it of him.
1 Nephi
22:20–21 20 And the Lord will surely prepare a way
for his people, unto the fulfilling of the words of Moses, which he spake,
saying: A prophet shall the Lord your God raise up unto you, like
unto me; him shall ye hear in all things whatsoever he shall say unto you. And
it shall come to pass that all those who will not hear that prophet shall
be cut off from among the people.
21 And now I, Nephi, declare unto you, that
this prophet of whom Moses spake was the Holy One of Israel;
wherefore, he shall execute judgment in righteousness.
A prophet’s purpose is to point the people to Jesus Christ.
Under the Lord’s direction, Moses and Aaron, and the Elders of Israel, helped
prepare the people for physical salvation. Moses let the people know that Jesus
could save them spiritually.
Exodus
1:22 22 And Pharaoh charged all his people, saying, Every son
that is born ye shall cast into the river, and every daughter ye
shall save alive.
2:1–10 I’m
so glad that Pharaoh’s daughter would not allow Moses to die. She let his own
mother take care of him until he was weaned, and then she raised him as her own
child.
Matthew
2:13–16 Like Pharaoh of Egypt, Herod did not want his people to experience
salvation. He heard from the wise men that new King had been born, and he had
all the men children age two and under killed. Joseph was warned by the Lord to
take his family and flee into Egypt so Jesus would be protected.
Exodus
24:18 Moses also went up into a mount to fast 40 days and 40 nights
like Jesus did.
Matthew
4:1–2 The Spirit led Jesus into the mountains where he fasted for 40 days
and 40 nights.
Look for symbols that testify of Jesus Christ.
“You can … find parallels to the Savior’s life in the lives
of prophets and other faithful men and women in the scriptures. [Doing so]
reveals truths about the Savior in places you might otherwise overlook.”

Hosea
12:10 10 I have also spoken by the prophets, and I have
multiplied visions, and used similitudes, by the ministry of the prophets.
I can show reverence for holy things and places.
Exodus
3:1–6
Continue to enjoy this wonderful world God’s created for
you. Allow yourself to feel awe, wonder, and gratitude. It will enhance your
experiences and your life.
Exodus
3:1–6 4 And when the Lord saw that he turned aside to
see, God called unto him out of the midst of the bush, and said,
Moses, Moses. And he said, Here am I.
5 And he said, Draw not nigh hither: put off
thy shoes from off thy feet, for the place whereon thou
standest is holy ground.
6 Moreover he said, I am the God of
thy father, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob. And
Moses hid his face; for he was afraid to look upon God.
I remember when I used to go walking, and spent time talking
to God as I walked, I sometimes felt like falling to my knees and expressing
gratitude. I need to not let phones and cameras take the place of the time I
can spend in reverential awe.
What are some sacred and holy places to you? How have
certain times in your life stood out as holy places?
Remembering
the Promises (Elder Bednar)
How can I guard myself against becoming complacent towards
spiritual things? I think I just need to turn my heart to the Lord more,
instead of thinking about what I can save or share. I need to work on a balance
of developing my talents and developing my relationship with my Heavenly Father
and His Son Jesus Christ. I need to take the Holy Spirit as my Guide and
Friend.

Doctrine
and Covenants 6:10–12 10 Behold thou hast a gift, and blessed
art thou because of thy gift. Remember it is sacred and cometh
from above—
11 And if thou wilt inquire, thou shalt
know mysteries which are great and marvelous; therefore thou shalt
exercise thy gift, that thou mayest find out mysteries, that thou mayest
bring many to the knowledge of the truth, yea, convince them
of the error of their ways.
12 Make not thy gift known unto any save it be
those who are of thy faith. Trifle not with sacred things.
63:64
64 Remember that that which cometh from above is sacred, and
must be spoken with care, and by constraint of the Spirit; and in
this there is no condemnation, and ye receive the
Spirit through prayer; wherefore, without this there remaineth
condemnation.
How do you receive the Spirit? We condemn ourselves if we
don’t pray.
God gives power to people He calls to do His work.
Exodus
3–4
Believers know Moses as one of the greatest prophets who
ever lived. But how did he feel about himself when he was called?
How can these chapters, Exodus
3–4, comfort you when you feel inadequate? Heavenly Father truly blesses
His servants to rise to what is needed for their callings. Whom the Lord calls,
he qualifies.

Church Gives Us Opportunities to Assist in God’s Work
The Lord’s purposes will be fulfilled in His own time.
Exodus
5–6
The Lord has perfect timing, and it is important for us to
press forward with faith and to trust that His will indeed will all be
fulfilled.
Exodus
5:4–9, 20–23 Pharaoh was wroth that the Israelites wanted to go to worship
their God. He increased their work without giving them the supplies that they
needed. Moses didn’t understand why God would allow this to happen.
God allows people agency. But as we are faithful, we can have the utmost
assurance that His arm will be revealed in His perfect timing.
Exodus
6:1–13 The Lord reassured Moses by reminding Him of the covenants He had
made with the fathers and with the Israelites and the blessings in store for
them. He reassured him that they would be led to a land of promise. He told
Moses His name and established His covenant again with him.

Preparing Children for a Lifetime on God’s Covenant Path
God can work through me to fulfill His purposes.
Exodus
1–2
Everybody remembers Moses as a great prophet. I’m so glad
his life was preserved and protected so that he could fulfill his mission. This
was possible because his faithful mother and sister, and because of the tender
heart of Pharaoh’s daughter, that she was willing to rear Moses as her own son.
Exodus
1:15–20 The midwives would not kill the baby boys.
Exodus
2:2–10 Moses’s mother hid him for three months. Then she made a little
ark, a basket that would float, and he was put at the river’s edge. His sister
watched to make sure he was safe, and when Pharaoh’s daughter found him, Moses’s
sister asked if the Pharaoh’s daughter would like her to find a woman that
could nurse the baby. So Moses’s own mother was able to care for him until he
was about three years old; then Pharaoh’s daughter took him in as her own son.
Numbers
26:59) 59 And the name of Amram’s wife was Jochebed,
the daughter of Levi, whom her mother bare to Levi in Egypt:
and she bare unto Amram Aaron and Moses, and Miriam their sister.
Exodus
2:16–21 Moses fled from Egypt and he found Jethro’s family. He married
Jethro’s daughter. And Jethro ordained Moses to the priesthood. He was
strengthened and prepared to become the prophet to help free Israel from Egypt.
I can treat holy places with reverence.
Exodus
3:1–5
Exodus
3:1–5 The Lord appeared to Moses in a burning bush and called Moses
to be a prophet to prepare Israel to be set free from Pharaoh.
The Lord told Moses to take off his shoes, because he was
standing on holy ground. How can we show reverence for sacred places and sacred
situations and things? How can we help our home become a sacred place?
When the Lord asks me to do something, He will help me do
it.
Exodus
3–4
Let the children role play to reenact the story of Moses
(See Exodus 3; 4:1–17).
How did Moses feel about his assignment from the Lord?
Exodus
3:11 11 ¶ And Moses said unto God, Who am I,
that I should go unto Pharaoh, and that I should bring forth the children
of Israel out of Egypt?
4:1, 10
1 And Moses answered and said, But, behold, they will
not believe me, nor hearken unto my voice: for they will
say, The Lord hath not appeared unto thee.
10 ¶ And Moses said unto the Lord, O
my Lord, I am not eloquent, neither heretofore, nor since thou
hast spoken unto thy servant: but I am slow of speech,
and of a slow tongue.
Have you ever been scared to do something new that you’ve
been asked to do?
The Lord offered Moses encouragement.
Exodus
3:12 12 And he said, Certainly I will be with thee; and
this shall be a token unto thee, that I
have sent thee: When thou hast brought forth the people out of Egypt,
ye shall serve God upon this mountain.
4:2–9,
11–12 The Lord gave Moses tools and directions to help him fulfill his
assignments from the Lord.
The Lord can help us fulfill the plans for us, as we put our
trust in Him, just like He did for Moses.
