2 This Is My Work and My Glory
This Is My Work and My Glory
Genesis
1:1 In
the beginning God created the heaven and
the earth.
Modern revelation, as well as truths found in the Bible
teach us more about who we were and with Whom we lived before the beginning of
this world. We can learn about God’s purposes for us and why He created us and
also this world where we now live.
Abraham
3:22–28 Abraham saw the spirit children of Heavenly Father before this
world was created.
Jeremiah 1:5: Jeremiah told us that God new us before He formed us in the
belly.
Moses 1:39: The truths found in the inspired book of Moses also teaches us
about God’s work and that it’s His glory to give us the opportunity to choose
exaltation.
Who is God? Who are we? What is God’s work, and what is our
place in it? We learn from Moses’s experiences that God will answer these
questions for us as well. We can know the truth of Moses’s testimony.
Moses
1:36 “Be merciful unto thy servant, O God, and tell me concerning this
earth, and the inhabitants thereof, and also the heavens.”
As a child of God, I have a divine destiny.
Moses 1
Choices
for Eternity Our Heavenly Father wants us to understand our true identity.
Why is important to know there is a God, that we are His children, and that
Jesus is our Savior?
“The way you think about who you really are affects almost
every decision you will ever make” (President Nelson).
Moses
1:4, 6 Heavenly Father speaks the truth to us. We are His children. We
are created in His image and in His Son’s image. They love us. The have a plan
for us to promote our progression, and they have a work for us to do.
Moses
1:12 Satan will lie to us. He will try to confuse us, to pull us away from
light and truth. He wants us to love and worship him.
Look at this section: First:
Know the truth about who you are.
My three most important identities are: I am a daughter of
God; I am a child of the covenant; I am a disciple of Jesus Christ.
What other labels or titles are important to you. Which ones help define your
true identity?
Wife, mother, daughter, sister, friend, teacher of truth,
volunteer, servant, ministering sister.
What can I work on to strengthen my knowledge of my identity
as a daughter of God? How can I recognize that in others as well and become
more charitable?
With the Lord’s help, I can resist Satan.
Moses
1:12–26
One spiritual experience isn’t enough to keep us safe. We
need to learn to live by and with the Spirit every day. We need to have the
Holy Ghost with us, so that we can recognize and not be persuaded by Satan’s
counterfeits.
Moses
1:13–18 vs 13-18 Moses recognizes that Satan has no glory.
If we are led by the Spirit in our ever day lives, we will
not be deceived. Choose to follow and obey the voice of the Spirit.
Moses was told that he was created in the similitude of the
Only Begotten, and he recognizes that Satan was not.
One experience isn't enough. Keep living and seeking truth,
so Good can reveal more to you and bless you and your family because of your
obedience.
Moses will call upon God in the name of the Son, and he will
only serve God.
Vs 24-26 We can reject Satan's conterfeits by having the
Holy Ghost with us, Who bears record of the Father and the Son.
We can have more spiritual experiences through prayer,
study, service, and asking. The Lord will bless us and help us to do the work
we need to do. He will be with us all our days and help us in the gathering of
Israel.
Matthew
4:1–11 Even Jesus was tempted by Satan. In fact he suffered the temptations
of us all.
Satan appealed unto Jesus's physical need for food. He
tempted Him to use power wrongfully so He could eat. Jesus resisted him with
scripture.
Satan tempted Jesus to prove He was God's Son by doing
something super showy, appealing to vanity. Jesus resisted Him with scripture.
Satan tempted him with riches and glory. Jesus told him to
leave, and again quoted scripture and reaffirmed that He would only worship and
serve God, His Father.
Because Jesus chose the right, He was blessed by ministering
angels.

Learning
at home can be planned but also spontaneous. “Teaching opportunities in the
family frequently occur in informal, everyday moments—while eating a meal,
doing chores, playing games, [or] traveling” (Teaching in the Savior’s
Way, 31). For example, in addition to reading about how Moses resisted
Satan in Moses 1, you might spend a few moments at
dinnertime talking as a family about how you resisted the influence of the
adversary.
God’s work and glory is to help me gain eternal life.
Moses
1:27–39; Abraham 3
Moses
1:30 Moses asked God to tell him about His creations and why He created
them.
Moses
1:31–39 God responded. 39 For behold, this is
my work and my glory—to bring to pass
the immortality and eternal life of man.
Eternal
Life
While every one born into the world will be resurrected and gain immortality,
only those who have been obedient to God’s commandments and made covenants with
Him will gain Eternal Life with Him.
The Life of Jesus Christ helps us to be able to achieve
both. In our First Estate, we followed out Heavenly Father’s Plan. Jesus was
chosen as our Creator, Savior, and Mediator with the Father. Then He came to
earth to show us the way and teach us the gospel, and to establish the new and
everlasting covenant. It is through His Atoning Sacrifice, Death, and
Resurrection that we can repent and be clean and gain His favor and be raised
for death the everlasting life, be judged and be assigned a Kingdom of Glory.
I lived as a spirit before I was born on earth.
Abraham
3:22–28
Abraham
3:22–28 teaches us about our premortal life.

Teaching Children
I am a child of God.
Moses
1:1–4, 6, 12
Read Moses
1:4 4 And, behold, thou art my son; wherefore look, and I
will show thee the workmanship of mine hands; but not all, for
my works are without end, and also my words, for they never
cease.
Then look in a mirror, and say, “I am a child of God.”

How does it make you feel to know that you are a child of
God, and that every other person here on earth is also a child of God?
Why are you glad to know you are a daughter of God? Why are
you glad to know that you are a son of God? Does knowing this change how you
feel about, talk about, and treat yourself and others?
God speaks to us with light and truth, bringing us joy and
happiness. Satan doesn’t do that.
verse 12
12 And it came to pass that when Moses had said these words,
behold, Satan came tempting him, saying: Moses, son of man,
worship me.
How can we tell the difference between messages from God and
messages from the devil?
Heavenly Father has a work for me to do.
Moses
1:6, 39
Do you realize that all the work that Heavenly Father does
is to bless His children and give them the opportunity to become like Him and
live again in His presence?
How can we know what work our Father in Heaven has for us to
do?
Read Moses
1:6 6 And I have a work for thee, Moses, my son; and thou art
in the similitude of mine Only Begotten; and mine Only
Begotten is and shall be the Savior, for he is full of grace and truth;
but there is no God beside me, and all things are present with me,
for I know them all.
What work was Moses called upon to do? Moses was called to
free the Israelites and lead them to a promised land.
Gospel Art Book, nos.
13–16: God talked to Moses from the burning bush; God gave Moses the Ten
Commandments, written on tablets; Moses was ordained to the Priesthood by his
father-in-law, and Moses ordained his brother Aaron to the priesthood; Moses
raised the brass serpent in the wilderness so that the people might be healed
from snake bites. (This is to remind us to look unto Christ so that we might be
healed and live).

What is the work God has for us to do?
Doctrine
and Covenants 11:20 20 Behold, this is your work, to keep my
commandments, yea, with all your might, mind and strength.
The most important thing we can do is keep God’s
commandments and stay on the covenant path. Also, as we learn and grow the Lord
will place more opportunities in our path so that we might learn and grow and
serve in our homes, in the Church, in our schools and work, and in our
neighborhoods. He will help us to know what gifts we have and what we should be
doing.
I can resist Satan’s temptations.
Moses
1:12–26
What did Moses do to resist temptation?
verses
13, 15, 18, 20–22, 26
vs 13-18 Moses recognizes that Satan has no glory.
If we are led by the Spirit in our ever day lives, we will
not be deceived. Choose to follow and obey the voice of the Spirit.
Moses was told that he was created in the similitude of the
Only Begotten, and he recognizes that Satan was not.

only serve God.
One experience isn't enough. Keep living and seeking truth,
so Good can reveal more to you and bless you and your family because of your
obedience.
Vs 20-22 It's important that when I am fearful I pray with
more sincerity and earnestness, like Moses, and like Joseph Smith.
Vs 24-26 We can reject Satan's counterfeits by having the
Holy Ghost with us, Who bears record of the Father and the Son.
We can have more spiritual experiences through prayer,
study, service, and asking. The Lord will bless us and help us to do the work

What are some things I can do to resist temptation?
I lived as a spirit before I was born on earth.
Abraham
3:22–28
Read Abraham
3:22–28 looking for words and phrases that show that we lived as spirit children of God before we came to earth.
22 Now the Lord had shown unto me, Abraham,
the intelligences that
were organized before the
world was; and among all these there were many of the noble and
great ones;
23 And God saw these souls that they were good,
and he stood in the midst of them, and he said: These I will make my rulers; for he
stood among those that were spirits,
and he saw that they were good; and he said unto me: Abraham, thou art one of
them; thou wast chosen before thou wast born.
24 And there stood one among them that
was like unto God, and he said unto those who were with him: We will go down,
for there is space there, and we will take of these materials, and we will make an earth
whereon these may dwell;
25 And we will prove them herewith, to see if they
will do all things whatsoever the Lord their God shall command them;
26 And they who keep their first estate shall
be added upon; and they who keep not their first estate shall not have glory in
the same kingdom with those who keep their first estate; and they who keep
their second estate shall have glory added upon their heads
for ever and ever.
27 And the Lord said: Whom shall
I send? And one answered like unto the Son of Man: Here am I, send me.
And another answered and said: Here am I, send me. And the Lord said:
I will send the first.
28 And the second was angry, and kept
not his first estate; and, at that day, many followed after him.
Why did Heavenly Father send us to earth?
vs 25-26 Heavenly Father sent us to earth, to test and try us, to see if we'd
be faithful and obedient to Him. We kept our first estate while in
premortality, and if we keep our estate here in mortality we will have glory
added upon our heads forever. This life is our schooling to help us prepare to
become more like our Heavenly Father and to receive an inheritance with Him.
Draw pictures to help you remember this lesson and song.
We have to make choices every day about how we will act and
how we will respond to distractions and temptations. This is part of the plan.
What do you plan to do when you are tempted to do something that you know is
not right?
Abraham
3:25 5 And we will prove them herewith, to see if
they will do all things whatsoever the Lord their God shall command
them;
