6 The Lord Called His People Zion

The Lord Called His People Zion

The Lord Called His People Zion

People throughout history have tried to duplicate a situation that Enoch and his people worked for, to have a society without poverty or violence. What made it doable in Enoch’s day is that the people were knit together in love with a common love for the Lord and a desire to obey His commandments and serve Him and each other.

Again today, members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints are seeking to build Zion, one heart at a time, one family, one, ward, and one stake, all across the world. The very nature of our covenants show that we want to be the Lord’s people and do His will in every facet of our lives.

How do we become one with the Lord and one with each other?

Moses 7:53 Knowing that Jesus is the King of Zion, we look forward to the day when He returns and will reign as King of kings and Lord of lords, physically among us.

Moses 7:18 And the Lord called his people Zion, because they were of one heart and one mind, and dwelt in righteousness; and there was no poor among them.

Let’s begin to build Zion in our own heart and in our own homes.

Zion is not just a city—it is a condition of the heart and spirit. Zion, as the Lord has taught, is “the pure in heart.”

Doctrine and Covenants 97:21 Therefore, verily, thus saith the Lord, let Zion rejoice, for this is Zion—the pure in heart; therefore, let Zion rejoice, while all the wicked shall mourn.

I can help build Zion.
Moses 7:16–21, 27, 53, 62–69

Since the time of Joseph Smith, the people of the Church have sought to again build Zion on the earth.

What is Zion?

How is it different from the rest of the world?

How can we offer the world a refuge by joining us in the stakes of Zion?

verses 16–21, 27, 53, 62–69

Zion is going to continue to grow through all the world, despite the wickedness that is also growing. I believe that ministering is what will make each person and the Church as a whole a Zion people. We need to reach out of our own selves and be concerned about others around us and love them and help lift their burdens as Jesus would do.

The gospel and priesthood power are here to stay. It is up to us to stay on the covenant path and choose to exercise the priesthood power and authority that we are endowed with to help bring souls unto Christ and to build up Zion.

God weeps—and rejoices—for His children.
Moses 7:28–69

Our God is a loving Heavenly Father that longs for the happiness and success of His children.

verses 28–40 As His children and His creations, God knows our potential, and He wants us to choose and to walk in light and truth. He wants us to return home to Him again. He weeps with us when we go astray and He does all He can to help us come back. He gave His Only Begotten Son for that very reason.

As Enoch’s understanding grew, he also wept. Even though we can sorrow for the suffering of people in this world, we also have great reasons to rejoice.

Moses 7:41–69 Enoch was taught about God’s love and about the Atonement of Jesus Christ. He prayed for his people that they might be blessed through the atonement. Are you praying for others and inviting them to come to Christ?

The Grandeur of God

Jesus Christ will come again in the last days.
Moses 7:59–67

Moses 7:59–67 Enoch prophesied of the Lord’s Second Coming to the earth in the Latter-days. How do you feel knowing that the Lord showed Enoch our day and to know of the promise that our Messiah will come again to be our King? How do you feel knowing that the earth will rest, that everyone living during this Millennial time will love each other and the Lord and we will dwell in peace and safety and love?

verse 62 How are these prophecies being fulfilled in our days? How is the Lord’s work progressing?

Heavenly Father wants me to choose to follow Him.
Moses 7:32–33

How can we show Heavenly Father that we choose Him?

Moses 7:32–33 32 The Lord said unto Enoch: Behold these thy brethren; they are the workmanship of mine own hands, and I gave unto them their knowledge, in the day I created them; and in the Garden of Eden, gave I unto man his agency;

33 And unto thy brethren have I said, and also given commandment, that they should love one another, and that they should choose me, their Father; but behold, they are without affection, and they hate their own blood;

Jesus will come back to earth.
Moses 7:59–67

Enoch asked the Lord a question:

Moses 7:59 ….Wilt thou not come again upon the earth?....

The Lord answered:

verse 60 60 And the Lord said unto Enoch: As I live, even so will I come in the last days, in the days of wickedness and vengeance, to fulfil the oath which I have made unto you concerning the children of Noah;
